The 36-year-old brutal father of a seven-year-old girl has been arrested for allegedly molesting her, ever since his second wife deserted him two months ago. The ordeal of the girl who lives in Kopar Khairane ended when neighbours, who could no longer turn a deaf ear to her desperate cries, lodged a complaint.

"I was woken up by neighbours on Thursday night. They said there was some problem at Gupta’s house, and that his daughter seemed to be in trouble. When I inquired what the problem was, they persuaded me to go there and check it out myself," said Asha Waghmare, a social worker with an NGO who helped rescue the child. Urged by the neighbours to peep through a window, Waghmare said that she was horrified to see what was happening inside. "The man was literally forcing himself on his little one. He was molesting her while the child was crying in pain. Both of them did not have any clothes on,” said Waghmare.

A case under Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code for outraging the modesty of a woman has been registered.

The accused was produced at the CBD Belapur court on Saturday and has been sent to judicial custody for eight days. The girl is currently in the care of Waghmare.

Shambhu Pratap Singh Rathore

Former Haryana DGP SPS Rathore is accused of molesting 14-year-old Ruchika Girhotra, who had later committed suicide. The case dates back to 1990.

It's been ten years since the CBI filed a charge sheet in the case on complaint of Parkash, father of Ruchika's friend Reemu, an eyewitness to the incident.

Ruchika's family has left the state fearing prosecution. Her brother was implicated in several theft cases, after which Ruchika committed suicide.

Hasmukh Rathod

Hasmukh Rathod, a tantrik influenced a man to rape to his daughters, telling them it will bring the family prosperity. The girl's father, a 60-year-old businessman is arrested on charges of allegedly raping his two daughters.

Jacob Simon Pinto

"I would like to add the name of Jacob Simon Pinto for not understanding that when Anandita Mishra Goswami said no, she didn't mean yes. He kept harassing and intimidating her and if reports are to be believed is the one who killed her."

Jyotish Prasad and Ashish Kumar

59-year-old Australian tourist Dawn Emilie Griggs, a writer and avid traveler, was brutally murdered by taxi drivers Jyotish Prasad and Ashish Kumar. Four years on, the killers have been convicted of murder, assault and robbery and have been sentenced to death. Just the punishment they deserve!

Joseph Fritzl

No one else deserves to be on the hall of shame more than this guy. He raped, assaulted and kidnapped his 18 yr old daughter Elizabeth and held her captive for 24 years in a windowless dungeon below his home. In that cellar, she gave birth to a total of seven children (including twins, one of whom died) all of whom had been fathered by Josef. Three of them had been imprisoned with their mother their whole lives when they were found—daughter Kerstin and sons Stefan and Felix, who were aged 19, 18, and 5, respectively. The other three (Lisa, Monika, and Alexander) were cared for by Josef and his wife Rosemarie in the house upstairs, after Fritzl engineered their appearance to make it seem that they had been left, at the doorstep, as infants by Elisabeth.

Irfan Ali Khan

A 22-year-old teacher who promised marriage to his minor student and kept physical relationship with her for over a year, was arrested by Dharavi police on charges of rape. The teacher, Irfan Ali Khan, had promised the 17-year-old girl that he would marry her once she turns major. But later, he refused to keep his promise. Interestingly, the victim turned 18 on Tuesday and the same day Khan landed behind the bars.

Moin Khan

On January 4, 2006, at 6 am, Moin dropped a two-year-old girl on the bed of Khan's Dharavi house and ran away. Confused by his drug-addict son's action, Khan handed over the child to the Dharavi police station. The police had then charged Moin with kidnapping, rape and sodomy of the child, all of which was proved in court. That morning, Moin had stolen the girl from her mother who was sleeping at the Sion railway station.

Pandey

Police said Pandey's second wife Neeta (not her real name) has registered a complaint of rape against 48-year-old Pandey, a resident of Lokhandwala in Andheri. In her complaint, Neeta, a 31-year-old social worker, alleged that she met Pandey for the first time at a Lok Adalat in the Bandra metropolitan magistrate court on July 13, 2002, and he later made overtures. In December 2004, Pandey had a 'Gandharva Vivah' with Neeta at the Ganesh Mandir on M G Road, Goregaon. According to Neeta, things went well until she saw Pandey with another woman under suspicious circumstances. When Neeta asked Pandey about it, he began to torture her. She then approached the court and filed for divorce. Pandey, in turn, told the court that he had never been married to Neeta.

Dr Ramesh Gaikwad

A Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) specialist from Dahanu has been arrested for allegedly molesting a woman patient on Friday evening. The 28-year-old woman (a government nurse by profession), was being examined for an infection in her right ear by Dr Ramesh Gaikwad, 35, in his cabin; they were alone. The doctor, it is alleged, asked the patient to remove her blouse and then began to grope her. Scared by what was happening, she tried to run away, but the doctor prevented her escape and continued to grope her. The woman finally screamed and managed to run out of the cabin. She complained to her husband who is a medical officer (MO) in the Thane Civil Hospital, and they lodged a complaint with the Dahanu Police Station. A case under Section 354 (molestation) has been registered against the doctor, said API Mahesh Balwantrao. The doctor has been arrested.

Amarmani Tripathi

He was sentenced for life on October 24, 2007 for the murder of the 22 year old poetess, Madhumita Shukla.

Manu Sharma

He was found guilty of having murdered Jessica Lall on April 29, 1999. He was sentenced for life on December 20, 2006.

Santosh Singh

A lawyer, raped and murdered Priyadarshini Mattoo on January 23, 1996.He was convicted and given death penalty on October 17, 2006.

Nitin Verma

He stabbed his wife to death after she disapproved of his affair with another woman.

Sunil More

A policeman from Mumbai.He brutally raped a girl in a Police Chowki in the middle of the day.
