![]() I took the baton in my own hands!Soon after I got married, I was being harassed by a guy I knew in college. I reported the case to the police along with my husband. The police refused to lodge an FIR so I lodged a General Diary Entry. I knew that after 3 GD's , the person against whom the complaint has been made is picked up by the police. A few days later, I received a call from the police station. When I reached there, the officer on duty asked me, “Haa Bhai Kya Problem hain?” (Yea, now what’s the problem here?). Incensed, I asked him to check his GD entry. On hearing this, the pest (the guy who was harassing me) said to the officer, “See how she talks, you think I harassed her? Can anyone harass such a woman! At this point, I lost it. I told him if he didn’t stop his nonesense, I would beat him with the police's baton right there! When he claimed to be an advocate, I asked him for his Bar Card and received a vague response. That day he was not put behind bars neither was he reprimanded by the police, but guess what? After that day I never heard from the guy again. I think all it takes is a bit of courage to stand up and trust me, knowledge is power. Understand the basics of law and your rights as a woman and you’ll know what to do!
